mathisOn Jeff Mathis - Mathis has played 5 seasons, 285 games, had 749 AB's and literally has a .200 career batting average. Right on the schnazola! He's the definition of Mario freakin' Mendoza! However, though, in 8 career playoff games he's now batting .357. Clutch!

Manager Mike Scoscia claims that Mathis is one of the Angels' most valuable players (not surprising coming from a catcher known for his defense himself.) He's a wizard defensively and when a pitcher is struggling, Scoscia usually plugs Mathis in the lineup to catch him. And don't think that Joe Girardi can't appreciate him too. The Yankees didn't win their first World Series in the 90's until Girardi joined the team. Mathis is that kind of catcher.

On Mark Teixeira -The guy can mash and does it from both sides of the plate. He's now been in the league for 7 years and has averaged 35 /114 /.290. I guess we knew he could thump but have you seen him play 1st base? The guy is a human vacuum cleaner. Seriously, he plays first base like a righty Keith Hernandez.

On A-Rod & Jeter - Who are they Mantle and Maris? 6 playoff games and 7 HR's betwen them! A-Rod haters are going to have to come up with something different as you can't say he's not clutch in the post season anymore. And why is it that I know of absolutely no one, not even Yankee fans that like Jeter and also like A-Rod too? Why are Jeter fans so threatened by A-Rod? They are totally different players.

On the Phillies - They are just clutch. It was Rollins last night, but it could be any one of them really. In these past two years they have figured out how to win. They just get it. They remind me of the Yankees in the 90's. If they don't get pitching they hit, it they don't get hitting they pitch. And with the game on the line, they out-will you...whatever it takes.

Listen to Charlie Manuel in his press conferences and he sounds like he should be selling used appliances on a house porch in southern Mississippi. Don't let that fool you, the guy has the pulse of his team and knows what buttons to push.
