timlSorry about the headline.... couldn't resist....

Now that baseball is over for the 2009 season, it's nice to see that we still have some quality baseball topics to write about.

So "The Freak" got busted.... What's that you say? Haven't heard?

San Francisco Giants star pitcher Tim Lincecum is facing misdemeanor marijuana charges. Shocker!

Apparently the 2008 Cy Young Award winner (soon to be 2009 Cy Young Award winner, at least in my eyes) was pulled over for speeding on Interstate 5 in the town of Hazel Dell, about four miles north of the Oregon border, on Oct. 30.

When the officer approached Lincecum's 2006 Mercedes, smelled marijuana and a plume of smoke came out as the pitcher rolled down his window, he was nailed like Jesus on the cross and handed over the drug and a marijuana pipe from the car's center console.

They say the amount measured wasn't considered that (3.3 grams.) Apparently, police consider that a small amount for personal use, well below the maximum of 40 grams before possession is classified differently and carries a more severe penalty.

spicoliNews reports say that Lincecum could face potential fines totaling $622 for the misdemeanor possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia counts plus the citation for driving 74 mph in a 60 mph zone.

The 25-year-old All-Star starter entered a plea of not guilty through his attorney on Monday. And a hearing that had been scheduled for Friday morning was canceled, pending a pretrial conference between Lincecum's attorney and a county prosecutor on Nov. 23. Lincecum is currently scheduled to appear before a judge on Dec. 22.

I guess the Giants said they were aware of the situation but did not immediately have a comment. The Giants may not have anything to say about "The Freak", but I do.

  • Is anyone surprised? Look at the kid, he looks like Jeff Spicoli!
  • If that helps him pitch, I'm all for it.
  • Perhaps Barry Zito might want to think about partaking a bit himself!
  • He love puppies, that's a tell....
  • Jonathan Sanchez looked ‘in a zone' during his no hitter, do you think.....?timd
  • No one can tell me that Pablo Sandoval doesn't constantly have the munchies... I bet he a Bengie Molina go to White Castle after sharing a relaxing toke.
  • He pleaded not guilty? He handed over the stuff from the center console of his car? I bet Barry Bonds advised him to say that he didn't know what he was taking...

He's from Seattle; if he were from a bit further North I would have thought he was a disciple of Bob & Doug McKenzie.
