Question #1: What are your thoughts on Ben Sheets, where he might go and what he's worth on draft day in a keeper 5x5 mixed league with 14 teams? - Claudel, Brookings, SD
Claudel: Dr. Roto has always been a big fan of Ben Sheets. When healthy, he is a horse on the mound and can throw 200 innings and win 15 games with 200 k's. However, health is a major issue for Sheets as he just can't seem to stay healthy for a whole season. I would think that $6-8 would be the bid on Sheets at your draft. He might be worth $10 more if healthy (or a waste of $ if he can't).
Question #2: Do you use Sabermetrics as part of your analysis or do you just "go by what you see...?" - Mark, Princeton University
Mark: Dr. Roto never has liked the Buffalo Sabres, so he avoids sabremetrics whenever possible. He uses his keen Roto eye (as well as the last few years of stats and his insider sources) for his wealth of information.
Question #3: Does the Beltran surgery give an "all clear" and mean that he can now be bid upon with confidence or signal more caution on auction day? - Bruce, Lochearn, MD
Bruce: Yellow flags are all around Beltran right now. Does that mean Dr. Roto won't bid on him? Not a chance. What it means is that Dr. Roto wlll only buy Beltran if he can get him at a discount because of his creaky knees.
Question #4: The Marlins just gave Josh Johnson a vote of confidence and signed him to a long term deal, should I do the same in my Ultra league? - Walter, Port Washington, NY
Walter: Dr. Roto has great confidence in Johnson. Sign him now before he gets Scott Boras as his agent.
Question #5: Do you believe that Carlos Marmol will be the Cubs closer this year and if so, do you think he will be successful? -Matthew, Wilmington, NC
Matthew: Yes, I think Marmol will be the Cubs closer for the better part of the season. There have been rumors that it will be Heath Bell. That is not happening as the Padres just signed Bell to a 4 million dollar deal which makes him trade friendly to any contending team. That leaves Marmol as the top option in the bullpen for the Cubbies. While he might have a few dramatic appearances this season, he should be good for 30 saves if he makes it through till the end of the season.
