The Doctor is in...
Question #1: What's your take on David Price? We haven't heard much from him since the WS. - Michael, Johnson City, TN
Michael: Dr. Roto is a big fan of Price, and recommends you to be patient with him. The Rays held him to about 130 innings last year and I would be surprised if he got 180 this year. To the Rays credit, they know that they have a future stud on their hands. By going slowly with him now, they should reap the rewards in years to come. He is a good buy candidate, but don't overspend.
Question #2: What is your opinion of Adam Dunn? He never goes for a lot of money, but if nothing else, he seems someone who is consistent that you can count on. - Greg, Washington St. University
Greg: If you enjoy counting on a power hitter who can hurt your batting average, Adam Dunn is your man! Yes, he hit .267 last year, but don't expect that to happen again. Dunn will jack out his 35 dingers and 100 RBI, but he has no speed, and his runs scored are so-so. So basically he is good in 2 categories and bad in 2 others. Dr. Roto will pass...and recommends you do the same.
Question #3: Do you expect Johan Santana to put up 1st round pick type stuff given that he's had surgery? - Sam, Clearwater, FL
Sam: Not a chance. Dr. Roto thinks Johan will be healthy this year, but I think the days of Santana's unparalleled dominance are over. Look at him as a top 15-20 NL pitcher. By doing that you will save yourself a few bucks and let someone else assume the risk.
Question #4: I have to decide between keeping Edwin Jackson, $6 or John Lackey, $8, What should I do? - Casey, High Point, NC
Casey: Normally, Dr. Roto would say that this is a no brainer and encourage you to take Lackey, BUT Dr. Roto likes the fact that Jackson is switching leagues and no one in the NL has seen his nasty stuff yet. However, since they are pretty close I think you have to go with the pitcher who pitches for the best team with the best bullpen...thus making.Lackey a safer bet.
Question #5: Is Ubaldo Jimenez worth $17? - Alex, Hofstra University
Alex: Dr. Roto likes Ubaldo and thinks that he is one of the top 10-15 pitchers in the NL. That should put his price at around $20. So yes, $17 would be worth it.
