scottborasSo Scott Boras says that his client would like to play for the Detroit Tigers.

"Johnny believes the addition of him to Detroit's lineup would make the Tigers a winner. He's batted .363 at Comerica Park; he has a .412 on-base percentage at Comerica.

Well, that's nice, but there's only one problem. The Tigers aren't interested in Johnny Damon!

Memo to Mr. Boras:

Why would the Tigers want 36 year old Johnny Damon for more money than they were paying Curtis Granderson? They just traded away Granderson whose salary for 2010 is circa $5 million and he's 29 year old all star caliber player.

You miscalculated the market and left 2-years and $14 million on the table with the Yankees. You then made matters worse by turning down 1-year $6 million. Now you are telling newspaper reporters that your client would like to play for the team in their town.

I'm guessing that right about now Johnny would like to play for any MLB team in any MLB town!

Back in December I asked Will Scott Boras screw up this year's free agency? The answer was yes.... - Keith A. Baker

If you haven't voted in our poll on the site yet please do so. We are trying to get a feel for how our readers are looking at the game of MLB so we can write about things they want to hear. The poll question is, "Do you think that MLB should have a salary cap or something similar?"Please vote.

I can't stand Boras, however,

Damon's at bat in the ninth inning of game four of the world series, followed by his stealing two bases on one play, was the turning point of the series as Cliff Lee was pitching the next game and the Phillies would have had a chance to go up 3 games to 2 if Damon doesn't come through in the ninth against a dominant Lidge.

So what is that worth? Probably the two year deal the Yanks offered, plus a bit more. But the yanks didn't offer that bit more.
