The Doctor is in...
Question #1: Please give me your fantasy outlook for Shinn-Soo Choo this season. - Cameron, Duke University
Cameron: Dr. Roto is all over the Choo-Choo train this year. He is batting 3rd in a solid lineup and is at an age where hitters usually break out. Look for Choo to hit about .290-23-92-90-23. All in all, one of the top young hitters in the American League.
Question #2: I read that article on the site about Jacoby Ellsbury and the lack of runs he scores compared to how many SB's he has. Given that fact, is $30 to high to pay for him? - Ben, Rio Rancho, NM
Ben: Dr. Roto likes Ellsbury, but thinks that $30 is paying full value and then some for him. Take away Ellsbury's steals and he is nothing more than Martin Prado! Steals are important but for the $, you might be better off getting yourself Carl Crawford for an extra $3-4.
Question #3: I have Andrew McCutchen for $16. If I want him, Should I throw him back and bid or keep him? - Evan, Glendale, CA
Evan: Dr. Roto thinks very highly of McCutchen. He has a rare combination of power and speed (think Carl Crawford light). You are not getting him at a discount at $16, but I think you will see that he gives you at least $25 worth of value by the end of the season.
Question #4: What do you think the role of Neftali Feliz will be and what would your maximum bid be on draft day? - Don, University of Wisconsin
Don: This is a tough call to make because the Rangers have some difficult choices ahead with Neftali Feliz. If they rush him to become a starter, they could force him to pitch more innings than he is ready at this young age. He is not going to be the closer just yet considering that Frank Francisco and Chris Ray both have the ability to close games right now if they can only stay healthy. My guess is that they use him much like the the Twins did with Francisco Liriano. He will get his feet wet in the bullpen for as long as they can keep him there and then define his position either later in the season or by 2011 for sure.
Question #5: What would you bid on Stephen Strasburg? Is $12 too much? - Mike, Deer Park, NY
Mike: Guaranteed there will be someone in your draft who will pay over $15 for Strasburg, so I don't think that $12 is too much. However, that said, I am not so sure he is worth $12. He plays on a bad team with a putrid offense and a crappy bullpen. I think I would do my best to move him to the team that will overpay for his future talents. Trust me, one team in your league will take him--try to make the best deal you can.
