Question #1: Does Cliff Lee's injury subtract anything from his draft day value? - Peter, Beaverton, OR
Peter: Interesting question here. Lee's abdomen has been problematic this spring and it has hurt his readiness for the season. Not sure what you know about abdominal strains, but it is not a good thing for a pitcher to have. I think it is safe to assume that he misses three starts with the injury (I am being very very conservative here). That should make his draft value about 90% of his full value.
Question #2: Will Madison Bumgarner be the 5th starter in SF or is it going to be Todd Wellemeyer? - Adrian, Colgate University
Adrian: Bumgarner was sent down to the minors recently so it doesn't look like he will be up anytime soon unless there is an injury. His dominance seems to be lacking and he may need a quick confidence boost. Right now Todd Wellemeyer looks like the guy for the Giants as 5th starter, but he is worth no more than a $1-2 bid tops.
Question #3: With Lance Berkman ailing, does Chris Shelton have any fantasy value? - Eric, Houston, TX
Eric: You must be desperate if you are looking at Chris Shelton. His last decent season was in 2005! Don't get too caught up with Shelton's decent spring stats...they won't last. He's just not that good.
Question #4: Do you see Ike Davis up with the Mets at some point this year? - Manny, Patchogue, NY
Manny: Dr. Roto likes Ike. He tore it up in Spring Training and arguably could have made the team with his monster stats. However, the Mets actually did the right thing by sending him down to the minors to start the season. There would be way too much pressure on him to produce right away, plus they save his time served (for free agency purposes) if they wait to bring him up in June. Let's not call Ike Davis the savior for the Mets--let's call him a good start.
Question #5: Who is someone that won't be on an opening day roster that will should have a fantasy impact THIS YEAR? - Kelly, Columbia University
Kelly: The easy answer would be to give you Stephen Strasburg from the Nationals, but that is not why you are asking Dr. Roto! So here's a guy who is probably slightly off the radar but shouldn't be--Erik Bedard. Bedard is coming off a shoulder injury and may miss the first month or two of the season. However, he has some wicked stuff and if healthy, can be a monster third starter for the Mariners. A threesome of Felix Hernandez, Cliff Lee, and Erik Bedard is as good as it gets in the AL if they can all stay healthy.
